Healthy Avocado Oil

Healthy Avocado Oil

Avocado oil is from the pulp of the fruit not the seed. It is full of healthy fats, including oleic acid and essential fatty acids.

Interestingly, in France, it has received prescription drug status, due to its ability to help the symptoms of arthritis.

Key Benefits of Avocado Oil

  1. Oleic acid is a heart healthy fat, a mono-saturated Omega 9 fat. It is very high in antioxidants and is the same as in olive oil.
  2. Reduces cholesterol by increasing the HDL, your good ratio of cholesterol; but at the same time decreases LDL (bad) cholesterol ratio.
  3. Reduces symptoms of arthritis, both pain and stiffness of joints.
  4. Reduces inflammation anywhere in the body, so is helpful in many types of diseases, not just pain of arthritis.
  5. High in Lutein, an antioxidant, a carotenoid good for the eyes. Decreases chances of cataracts and macular degeneration.
  6. Hydrates and improves skin.
  7. Improves hair texture.
  8. Soothes psoriasis and other skin issues.
  9. Helps with Nutrient absorption.
  10. Great to rub onto cracked dry heels.

 How to Use Avocado Oil

Avocado oil is similar to olive oil, that is, its high in vitamins, in magnesium and potassium.

  • Great tasting oil for dressing salads.
  • Avocado oil has a high smoke point; this allows it to be used with cooking without breaking down.
  • Helps dry skin and can be used to remove eye makeup. Blend a small amount of oil on dry spots or use a few drops on a tissue to remove your makeup.
  • As a moisturizer for the skin, it softens and hydrates skin and penetrates better than many other oils can. Due to its humectant properties, it keeps the skin fresh and clean.
  • For Acne treatment, the oil penetrates so well, it is able to clean out dead skin cells; unclogs the pores and limits inflammation and redness.
  • It is an effective sunscreen, due to its mono-saturated fats it is a rich sun protective factor.
  • Avocado is helpful for hair growth, moisturizes, repairs and strengthens hair follicles. Mix avocado oil with lavender or peppermint essential oil, both good for promoting hair growth. Massage a small amount into the scalp helping with blood flow.

Don’t worry avocado oil absorbs well and will not look greasy or be noticeable. (If you desire you can treat it overnight and wash it out in the morning).

Typically, versus other nut oils, avocado is not an allergen. So many people who are allergic to other nut oils can use avocado oil.

Although there have been few reports of any allergic reactions, if you are allergic to latex then you may also be allergic to avocados.

Look for a cold pressed version of this oil for best results.
