Breathe Easy with Eucalyptus Oil

One of the best essential oils for respiratory issues is Eucalyptus oil. The health benefits of eucalyptus are well known with a wide range of properties; antispasmodic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, decongestant and antiseptic.

There are more than 700 species of eucalyptus trees in the world; 500 that produce an essential oil.

 Eucalyptus globulus, is the species receiving the most attention and is the most used oil type. It has the compounds, eucalyptol and alpha-terpineol. These substances make it ideal for promoting clear breathing and open  up clogged sinus conditions.

The eucalyptus tree is also known as Tasmanian Blue Gum, is an evergreen tea, native to Australia. In Australia, the eucalyptus leaves is the main food source for the koala bear.

In 2015 research study reports that topical use of eucalyptus oil has a therapeutic approach reduces infection caused mucus secretion.

Today it is used in many prepared rubs, liniments and inhalers.

 Eucalyptus Essential Oil Suggested Uses

Make up a vapor rub by mixing 3-5 drops with equal parts coconut oil and make a homemade blend. Rub onto the chest to ease respiratory congestion and breathing. This dilates the blood vessels allowing oxygen into the lungs.

Use Eucalyptus oil in a vaporizer during colds, flu or during respiratory congestion especially during bedtime to ease symptoms.

Mix with other lotions or oils like lemongrass or lavender and use directly for joint pain, wounds, insect bites or headaches.

Apply a blend of carrier oil with eucalyptus oil to treat cold sores or shingles . This helps speed up the healing process and may decrease the pain.

Gargle with  a few drops of Eucalyptus essential oil and warm water to help a sore throat. Then spit out the blend, it is not recommended to swallow it.

Eucalyptus oil is cool and refreshing, it can remove exhaustion and sluggishness. It is great for stimulating mental activity; good for students trying to study for an exam. Use it as inhalant or vaporizer.

 Is Eucalyptus Essential Oil Safe?

It is not recommended to use on the face or nose area of young children under the age of two. Since it has a strong scent.

Also pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should not use the oil.

Eucalyptus oil should not to be used straight form the bottle internally by mouth unless mixed with products like toothpaste, mouthwash or diluted with water.
