Olive oil was on bathroom shelves long before it was in kitchens.

This is the unrefined kind — pressed, filtered, bottled, and then left alone. No water, no fragrance, no preservatives, nothing blended in to make it go further. It arrives the color it was when it left the press: green-gold, with a mild olive scent. Both shift a little between pressings. That is what unrefined means.

On skin it is cushioning and slow. It sits and softens rather than disappearing, which is exactly what dry skin wants and exactly what oily skin does not. Elbows, knees, heels, cuticles, the backs of your hands in February. Two or three drops on a damp face at night if your skin runs dry.

On hair it earns its keep as a pre-shampoo oil. Warm a little, work it through dry lengths, leave it half an hour, shampoo it out. Or smooth two drops over damp ends to take down frizz.

And it is the workhorse carrier oil. If you make your own blends, this is the base most recipes assume you already have.

Can I use olive oil on my face?
If your skin is dry or normal, yes. It is cushioning and slow to absorb, so it suits skin that feels tight. If your skin is oily or acne-prone, a lighter oil will suit you better.

Is this food grade olive oil?
No. This is bottled and sold as a beauty oil, for skin and hair.

What is the difference between refined and unrefined olive oil?
Refining strips color, scent and some of the compounds that come with the fruit. Unrefined oil keeps them, which is why this one is green-gold and smells faintly of olives, and why it varies a little between pressings.

Does it come with a dropper?
Yes. A 4 fl oz glass bottle with a glass dropper.

Can I mix it with essential oils?
Yes. Olive oil is one of the standard carrier oils, and this one has nothing else in it.

How long does a 4 oz bottle last?
At two or three drops a night on the face, several months. Used on hair and body it goes faster.

Is this organic?

The oil is. We buy it from a supplier who is certified organic, and we keep their certificate on file. What we don't do is call the bottle "organic olive oil" on the front, because USDA reserves that for operations that hold their own certification, and we're not certified as a handler. So you'll see it in the ingredient line and nowhere else.
